Shopify Payments Fee Calculator
Work out the Shopify Payments fee on an order, your payout and effective rate, or the price to charge to estimate a desired payout.
Estimate processing fees on the amount charged through Shopify Payments, or work backwards from a desired payout. Enter the rate for your own plan, country and payment type. Results use unrounded percentage arithmetic; actual transaction rounding, reserves, adjustments and payout charges can make a bank deposit different.
How to use this tool
- Choose an order-fee estimate or an unrounded reverse-price calculation.
- Enter the order total, or the amount you want to receive.
- Enter your card rate and fixed fee from Settings › Payments, plus any extra percentage for an international card or currency conversion.
- Optionally enter your monthly orders to project the month's fees and payout.
Formula
Fee = Order total × (Rate + Extra %) + Fixed fee
Payout = Order total − Fee
Price to receive X = (X + Fixed fee) ÷ (1 − Rate − Extra %)
Rates are decimals. The reverse calculation includes the percentage charged on the extra amount itself. Its result is an unrounded threshold, so round a quoted charge upward to cents and check fee rounding in your statement. The monthly projection assumes identical payments at the same rate.
Example
An $80 order at 2.9% + $0.30 costs $2.32 + $0.30 = $2.62 in fees, so $77.38 is paid out — an effective rate of about 3.3%. At 300 orders a month that adds up to $786 in processing fees. For a modeled payout of $100 from one payment at the same rate, the unrounded charge is $103.295572, which rounds upward to $103.30.
Frequently asked questions
Does Shopify charge a transaction fee with Shopify Payments?
Amounts processed through Shopify Payments avoid the separate third-party transaction fee. Other payment portions need separate checks: for example, gift card and store credit payments can carry transaction fees on stores created on or after May 12, 2025. Some outside payment methods are exempt.
Why is my effective rate higher on small orders?
The fixed fee is the same on every payment, so it is a bigger share of a small order. A $10 order at 2.9% + $0.30 pays 5.9%, while a $500 order pays about 2.96%.
Where do I find my exact rate?
In Shopify admin under Settings › Payments. Shopify bases the rate on your subscription plan, so upgrading changes it, and international or converted payments can carry extra charges listed there.
