Amazon Referral Fee Calculator

The referral fee is Amazon's commission on every item sold, and it is the one fee every seller pays whether they use FBA or ship orders themselves. It is a percentage of the total sales price that depends on the category, with a per-item minimum in most categories. This calculator gives an estimated fee for one category and price, explains which rate or band applied, and compares the fee across the listed US categories at the same price.

How to use this tool

1. Choose the category your product is listed under.
2. Enter the item price the buyer pays.
3. If you ship the order yourself, add the shipping and gift-wrap charges, since they are part of the fee base.
4. Read the fee, the effective rate and the breakdown, then scan the table to compare categories.

Formula

Flat categories: Fee = Rate × Total sales price

Portion tiers: Fee = Σ (Rate of each band × part of the price inside that band)

Final fee = max(Calculated fee, Category minimum)

Two kinds of tiers exist. Clothing, Baby, Beauty, Grocery and Lawn Mowers use one rate for the whole price depending on which band the total falls in, so a $20.01 shirt pays 17% on everything. Jewelry, Watches, Furniture, Electronics Accessories, Compact Appliances and Fine Art work like tax brackets: each rate applies only to the slice of the price within its band. The $1.80 closing fee also applies to video games, gaming accessories and consoles. Example

A $300 necklace in Jewelry pays 20% on the first $250 ($50.00) and 5% on the remaining $50 ($2.50), so the referral fee is $52.50 — an effective rate of 17.5%. A $1.50 kitchen gadget would owe 15% × $1.50 = $0.23, but the $0.30 minimum applies instead, which is 20% of the price.
