eBay Fee Calculator
Calculate eBay final value fees by category, the per-order fee and Promoted Listings costs, then see your payout and profit on a US sale.
eBay's main charge is the final value fee: a percentage of the total the buyer pays — item, shipping and sales tax — plus a small per-order fee. The rate depends on the category, and some categories switch to a lower rate on the part of a sale above a threshold. This calculator applies the current US rates for sellers without a Store, adds any Promoted Listings fee and shows what you keep.
How to use this tool
- Pick the category the item is listed in.
- Enter the sale price, the shipping you charged and the sales tax rate on the order.
- Add the Promoted Listings ad rate if the item was promoted.
- Enter your item and shipping costs to see your profit.
Formula
Total sale = (Price + Shipping) × (1 + Tax rate)
Final value fee = Rate × Total sale + $0.30 or $0.40
Payout = Price + Shipping − Fees
Most categories pay 13.6% on the first $7,500 and 2.35% on any amount above it. Jewelry, handbags and bullion switch to a lower rate for the whole sale once it passes the threshold. The per-order fee is $0.30 for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above.
Example
An item sells for $50 with $8 shipping and 7% tax, so the buyer pays $62.06. The final value fee is 13.6% of $62.06 plus $0.40, or $8.84. The payout is $58 − $8.84 = $49.16. If the item cost you $20 and postage cost $7, the profit is $22.16.
Frequently asked questions
Why does eBay charge fees on sales tax?
eBay calculates the final value fee on the total amount of the sale, which includes shipping and the sales tax it collects. The tax itself is passed to the state, so the fee base is larger than your pre-tax proceeds.
How much is the eBay fee on a $100 item?
With free shipping and 7% tax in most categories, the buyer pays $107, so the fee is 13.6% of $107 plus $0.40 — about $14.95, leaving $85.05.
Do eBay Store subscribers pay less?
Often, yes: Store subscribers get lower final value fees in many categories, but they pay a monthly subscription. This calculator uses the non-Store rates.
How are Promoted Listings fees charged?
For general promoted listings, the ad rate you chose is charged on the total sale amount when the order meets current attribution rules. Enter the applicable rate only for an attributed order.
