Shopify Plan Comparison Calculator
Compare the monthly cost of Shopify Basic, Grow and Advanced at your sales volume, find the cheapest plan and the sales level where upgrading pays.
Higher Shopify plans cost more each month but charge lower card rates and, if you use an outside payment provider, a smaller Shopify transaction fee. So the cheapest plan depends on how much you sell. Enter your monthly sales and orders to see the total cost of Basic, Grow and Advanced side by side, which plan is cheapest, and the sales level at which each upgrade starts to pay for itself.
How to use this tool
- Enter your monthly online sales and number of orders.
- Choose the provider, its fixed fee and, in third-party mode, the share of payment value subject to Shopify transaction fees.
- Check subscription prices, card rates and third-party transaction rates against your current country-specific quote.
- Read the cheapest plan, the cost table and the upgrade break-even points.
Formula
Plan cost (Shopify Payments) = Subscription + Sales × Card rate + Orders × Fixed fee
Third-party plan cost = Subscription + Provider fees + Sales × Eligible share × Shopify rate
Upgrade break-even sales = Price difference ÷ Rate difference
Defaults are 2026 US monthly-billed Basic, Grow and Advanced prices with standard online card rates. The same fixed processing fee applies to every plan, so it cancels in the crossover. A crossover means equal costs: the note states which side favors the higher plan. All three totals determine the cheapest option.
Example
A store selling $15,000 a month across 250 orders with Shopify Payments pays $39 + $435 + $75 = $549 on Basic, $585 on Grow and $849 on Advanced, so Basic is cheapest. With these rates Grow only pays off above $33,000 of monthly sales. With a third-party provider instead, Basic's 2% fee adds $300 and Grow becomes cheaper at $765 a month.
Frequently asked questions
When should I upgrade my Shopify plan?
Compare all three totals at your expected volume, then consider the features you need. A pairwise crossover is not necessarily the overall cheapest-plan boundary. Equal costs favor the first listed plan in the headline.
Does paying yearly change the answer?
It can. Yearly billing lowers the monthly price, which shifts the break-even points. Enter the monthly equivalent Shopify shows for yearly billing.
Do third-party fees apply to every payment?
No. Exemptions depend on the payment method and account setup, including eligible PayPal payments when Shopify Payments is primary. Set the eligible sales share accordingly. This simplified model excludes mixed gift-card credits, refunds and other account adjustments.
