Amazon FBM Fee Calculator
Work out Amazon fees on a merchant-fulfilled (FBM) sale: referral fee by category, media closing fee and plan fees, plus your payout and profit.
When you ship Amazon orders yourself — Fulfilled by Merchant, or FBM — you skip FBA fulfillment and storage fees, but Amazon still takes a referral fee on every sale, and it is charged on the shipping you collect as well as the item price. This calculator applies the referral rate for your category, the $1.80 closing fee on covered media and games and your selling plan cost, then shows the payout and what is left after your own product and postage costs.
How to use this tool
- Pick the category the product is listed in and enter the item price.
- Enter the shipping and any gift-wrap charge the buyer pays; for books, music and video use the shipping credit Amazon pays you.
- Choose your selling plan. For Professional, enter your monthly unit sales so the $39.99 subscription is shared across them.
- Add your product cost and the postage and packaging you actually pay.
Formula
Total sales price = Item price + Shipping charged + Gift wrap
Referral fee = max(Category rate × Total sales price, Minimum fee)
Profit = Total sales price − Transaction fees − Subscription share − Product cost − Postage
Most categories charge one flat percentage with a $0.30 minimum per item. Clothing, Baby, Beauty, Grocery and Lawn Mowers pick a single rate from the whole total price, while Jewelry, Furniture, Electronics Accessories, Watches and Compact Appliances charge each rate only on the part of the price inside its band. The $1.80 closing fee also applies to video games, gaming accessories and consoles. These are US fee estimates checked October 30, 2026; account programs, fee-category classification and settlement rounding can differ.
Example
A $25 kitchen item with $5.99 shipping has a total sales price of $30.99. The 15% referral fee is $4.65, so Amazon pays out $26.34. On the Professional plan with 100 sales a month, each sale carries $0.40 of the subscription. After $8 for the product and $5 for postage, the profit is $12.94 per sale — a 41.76% margin.
Frequently asked questions
Does Amazon charge referral fees on shipping for FBM orders?
Yes. The referral fee is a percentage of the total sales price, which includes the shipping and gift-wrap charges the buyer pays. Raising shipping to lower the item price does not reduce the fee.
Is FBM cheaper than FBA?
FBM avoids the FBA fulfillment and storage fees, but you pay for postage, packaging and your own time. Compare your real shipping cost per order with the FBA fee for the product's size tier.
Which selling plan should I choose?
On plan charges alone, 40×$0.99=$39.60 and 41×$0.99=$40.59, so $39.99 becomes cheaper at 41 units. Plan features, category eligibility and other charges can also affect the choice.
