eBay Profit Calculator
See your real profit on an eBay sale after final value, per-order and promoted listing fees, plus the break-even price and price for a target profit.
eBay's fee screen tells you what eBay keeps, but not what you keep. This calculator starts from the same US fees — the final value fee for your category, the per-order fee and any Promoted Listings charge, all applied to the tax-inclusive total — then takes off what you paid for the item, postage and packaging. It also works backwards to the lowest price that breaks even and the price you need to ask for the profit you want.
How to use this tool
- Choose the category and enter the sale price and the shipping you charge.
- Enter the sales tax rate and the Promoted Listings rate, if any.
- Add what the item cost you, your real postage and packaging.
- Set the profit you want per sale to see the price to list at.
Formula
Total = (Price + Shipping) × (1 + Tax rate)
Fees = Tiered category fee + Per-order fee + Attributed ad fee + Listing fees
Profit = Price + Shipping − Fees − Item cost − Postage − Packaging
The per-order fee is $0.30 through $10 total and $0.40 above, except qualifying sneakers. The solver searches whole-cent prices separately across fee thresholds, including fee drops, up to $100 million. Fees are estimated before settlement rounding. Heavy equipment includes its $20 basic insertion charge.
Example
An item sells for $40 plus $8 shipping with 7% tax, so the buyer pays $51.36. The 13.6% final value fee is $6.98, the per-order fee $0.40 and a 5% promoted listing $2.57 — $9.95 in total. After $12 for the item, $7 postage and $0.75 of packaging, the profit is $18.30, a 38.12% margin on price plus shipping.
Frequently asked questions
How do I work out profit on eBay?
Take the price plus the shipping you charged, subtract every eBay fee, then subtract what you paid for the item, the postage and the packaging. Sales tax passes through to the state, but eBay's fee on it is a real cost.
Does Promoted Listings reduce my profit a lot?
For an attributed General campaign sale, the entered percentage applies to the modeled total including shipping and tax. Priority campaign click charges are a different model; enter additional fixed costs separately.
Why is the break-even price not reachable?
The target may be unavailable under the entered fees, costs and tax, or beyond the $100 million search cap. Some categories have fee drops, so the calculator checks each interval rather than assuming profit always rises smoothly.
