Icon Generator — Custom PNG from an Image

Turn a local image into a square PNG icon with a custom size, padding, crop, background color and optional rounded or circular corners.

One PNG, JPEG or WebP; up to 20 MiB and 32 megapixels. Animated images use the decoded still frame.

Create a custom PNG icon from an image already on your device. Choose a square pixel size, preserve the whole image or crop its center, then add spacing and a background if needed. This tool resizes your supplied artwork; it does not invent a logo or replace a platform-specific app icon workflow.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose one PNG, JPEG or WebP image within the displayed limits.
  2. Set the output side from 8 to 2,048 pixels and choose fit or center crop.
  3. Set padding, background and corner radius; zero radius keeps a square.
  4. Generate the icon, inspect its preview and download the PNG.

Formula

Inner side = output side × (1 − 2 × padding / 100); fit scale = min(inner side / width, inner side / height)

Center crop uses the maximum ratio instead. The image is clipped to the inner square, leaving the requested padding on every side. Corner radius is measured against the entire output side; 50% produces a circle.

Example

A 160 × 100 image fitted into a 256 × 256 square with zero extra padding becomes 256 × 160 pixels, leaving 48 pixels above and below. A center crop fills the square and removes equal amounts from the source left and right.

Frequently asked questions

Does a solid background remove every transparent pixel?

It fills the selected shape and transparent parts of the source. Rounded corners intentionally remain transparent outside the shape. Choose zero corner radius for a full square.

Can I make a small image sharp by enlarging it?

No. The browser resamples existing pixels. Use a larger original and inspect fine lines and lettering at the final size.

Can I submit this directly as an app icon?

Requirements vary by platform and workflow. Use the app icon generator for its documented platform assets; stores normally apply their own masks rather than accepting pre-rounded artwork.
