JPG to PNG Converter
Convert JPG and JPEG photos to lossless PNG in your browser, with optional resizing and batch ZIP download. Files never leave your device.
Some editors, print services and upload forms insist on PNG, and PNG is the safer format while you keep editing an image because saving it again never adds new compression damage. This converter turns JPG and JPEG photos into PNG files in your browser, one at a time or in a batch, and shows the size before and after. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use this tool
- Drop one or more JPG or JPEG files into the box.
- Optionally enter a maximum width and/or height — larger images are scaled down with the aspect ratio kept.
- Press Convert if the files do not start on their own.
- Download each PNG, or all of them as one ZIP file.
Formula
scale s = min(1, max width ÷ W, max height ÷ H); output = round(W × s) × round(H × s) px, saved losslessly as PNG.
Size change = PNG bytes ÷ JPG bytes. JPG throws away fine detail to save space; PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so the PNG of a photo is normally 3–10 times larger.
Example
A 1200 × 800 px photo with a max width of 600 is scaled by 0.5 and saved as a 600 × 400 px PNG. Without limits it stays 1200 × 800 px, and a 180 KB JPG of that size typically becomes a PNG well over 1 MB.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting to PNG improve the quality?
No. The PNG is an exact copy of the decoded JPG, including any blockiness or blur from JPG compression. It only stops further losses when you edit and save again.
Why is the PNG so much larger?
PNG uses lossless compression, which works well on flat graphics but poorly on the noise and gradients of photos. For small photo files, keep JPG or use our PNG to JPG converter for the opposite direction.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. JPG has no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque. Removing a background needs a separate background-removal step.
Are portrait photos rotated correctly?
Yes. The EXIF orientation from the camera is applied, so the PNG is stored upright. Other EXIF data such as GPS location is not copied.
