WebP to JPG Converter

Convert WebP images to JPG or PNG in your browser. Set quality, background colour for transparency and max width; batch convert to a ZIP.

Used when the background is “Custom colour”. Hex code or a CSS colour name.
Optional — wider images are scaled down.

Images saved from websites often arrive as .webp files, and older photo editors, Office versions, printers and some upload forms will not open them. This tool converts WebP to JPG (or PNG) in your browser, with control over quality, the colour used behind transparent areas and the output width. Your images are not uploaded anywhere.

How to use this tool

  1. Drop one or more .webp files into the box.
  2. Choose JPG or PNG and, for JPG, a quality — 90% is a good default for photos.
  3. Pick the background colour that should replace transparency (white, black or any hex colour).
  4. Optionally set a maximum width, then download the files one by one or as a ZIP.

Formula

JPG has no alpha channel, so every pixel is blended onto the background colour B: out = α × pixel + (1 − α) × B, then saved as JPEG at quality q.

α is the pixel’s opacity from 0 (transparent) to 1 (opaque). With a max width M, the scale is M ÷ width when the image is wider than M.

Example

An 800 × 600 px WebP logo with a transparent background, converted with white behind it and a max width of 400, becomes a 400 × 300 px JPG with a solid white background.

Animated WebP

An animated WebP is converted from its first frame, and the result notes how many frames the file had. JPG cannot store animation; to keep every frame, use the WebP to PNG converter with “every frame” ticked in Chrome or Edge.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my JPG larger than the WebP?

WebP compresses better: Google’s own study reports lossy WebP files 25–34% smaller than JPEGs of similar quality. Lower the JPG quality or the width to shrink the file.

Can I keep the transparent background?

Not in JPG. Choose PNG as the output format and transparency is kept exactly.

Does converting lose quality?

JPG is lossy, so a little detail is lost at each save. At 90% the difference is very hard to see; choose PNG for a lossless copy.

Are my files uploaded?

No — decoding and encoding happen in your browser.
