HEIC to JPG Converter

Convert iPhone HEIC and HEIF photos to JPG or PNG in your browser. Batch convert, pick quality and size; photos are never uploaded.

Choose several files at once to batch convert.

iPhones and many Android phones save photos as HEIC, a HEIF file compressed with HEVC. It is efficient, but plenty of Windows programs, websites and upload forms still reject it. This converter turns HEIC and HEIF photos into ordinary JPG or PNG files inside your browser — the photos are never uploaded, so private pictures stay on your device.

How to use this tool

  1. Drop one or more .heic or .heif files into the box, or tap to choose them.
  2. Choose JPG (small, universal) or PNG (lossless, much larger) and a JPG quality — 92% looks identical to the original for nearly all photos.
  3. Optionally cap the long edge at 4000, 2048 or 1080 px for email or social media, and tick “convert every image” for burst or multi-image files.
  4. Download each picture, or all of them together as a ZIP.

Formula

Decoding: Safari 17+ reads HEIC natively; other browsers use libheif compiled to WebAssembly (heic2any). The pixels are then saved as JPEG at quality q (10–100%) or as PNG.

With a long-edge limit L, a W × H photo is scaled by L ÷ max(W, H) when it is larger. Smaller photos are never enlarged.

Example

A 12-megapixel iPhone photo of 4032 × 3024 px converted with Max 2048 px comes out as a 2048 × 1536 px JPG. At the original size the JPG is usually larger than the HEIC, because HEVC compresses better than JPEG.

Privacy, metadata and limits

The output does not carry over EXIF metadata, so camera details, the date taken and the GPS location are removed — handy before posting a photo publicly. Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot read HEIC themselves, so a 1.3 MB decoder loads the first time and each large photo takes a few seconds. Live Photos keep their motion in a separate .mov file; only the still image is converted.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC file?

HEVC needs far fewer bytes than JPEG for the same quality. Lower the quality to 80–85% or cap the long edge if the file must be small.

What does “convert every image in the file” do?

A HEIF file can hold several images, for example a burst. With the box ticked each one is saved separately as name-1.jpg, name-2.jpg and so on; otherwise only the main image is converted.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding and encoding run on your device; the page works offline once loaded.

How do I make my iPhone shoot JPG instead?

Go to Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible.
