QR Code Scanner

Scan QR codes from photos, screenshots or PDF pages in your browser. See the decoded text, its content type and parsed fields, with phishing warnings.

Only used for PDF files.

Read a QR code from a screenshot, a phone photo or a PDF without installing an app. The scanner shows the decoded text, recognises common payloads — links, Wi-Fi logins, contact cards, email, SMS, map locations, calendar events, two-factor setup and payment requests — and lists their fields in a table. Files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose or drop one or more images (PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, iPhone HEIC photos) or PDFs. On a phone, the file picker can open the camera.
  2. For PDFs, set how many pages to scan from page 1 (five by default).
  3. Read the decoded text, the content type and the parsed fields, and copy what you need.
  4. Check any link before you open it yourself — the tool never opens links automatically.

Example

A café sticker that encodes WIFI:T:WPA;S:CafeGuest;P:latte2024;; is shown as content type Wi-Fi network with Network name CafeGuest, Security WPA/WPA2/WPA3 and Password latte2024. A code holding http://192.168.4.20/login is a Web link (URL) and gets two cautions: the connection is not encrypted and the address is a raw IP number.

How the decoding works

If your browser has a built-in barcode detector (Chrome and Edge on Android, macOS and ChromeOS), it is used first because it can find several codes in one picture. The open-source jsQR decoder always runs as well; when it fails, the tool retries at half size and on a contrast-stretched greyscale copy, which rescues many dim or low-contrast photos. PDF pages are rendered at twice their normal size before scanning. There is no live camera view on this page: take a photo and drop it in.

Phishing warnings

A QR code can hide any address. The tool shows the real domain and warns when a link uses unencrypted http://, points to a raw IP number, uses a punycode (xn--) domain that may imitate a familiar name, or hides the real site behind an @ sign. Payment and two-factor codes get their own reminder.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say no QR code was found?

The code is usually too small, blurred, cut off or reflecting light. Crop the picture around the code, keep the blank border around it in view, hold the phone steady and avoid glare.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Decoding happens on your device with your browser's own detector or the jsQR library, so screenshots of private links or Wi-Fi passwords stay with you.

Can it read barcodes or Data Matrix codes?

This page reads QR codes only. Use the Barcode Scanner for EAN, UPC, Code 128 and Code 39.

Can it scan several codes at once?

Yes: choose several files, and with the built-in detector (Chrome or Edge on Android, macOS and ChromeOS) several codes in one picture are found too. jsQR alone reads one code per picture.
