WhatsApp QR Code Generator
Make a QR code that opens a WhatsApp chat with your number and an optional pre-filled message, using the official wa.me click-to-chat link.
A WhatsApp QR code lets customers start a chat with you without saving your number first. Scanning it opens WhatsApp — the app on a phone, or WhatsApp Web on a computer — with your number selected and, if you like, a message already typed. The tool turns any common way of writing a phone number into WhatsApp's official click-to-chat link, draws the code and checks that it scans, all in your browser.
How to use this tool
- Type your number in international format, such as +44 7700 900123, or choose the country and type it as you would at home.
- Optionally write the message the customer will see in their text box.
- Choose size, colours and PNG or SVG, then download.
- Scan it with a second phone to see the chat open before you print.
Formula
https://wa.me/<country code + number>?text=<URL-encoded message>
Spaces, dashes, dots and brackets are removed, and a leading + or 00 is dropped. When a country is chosen, a national leading 0 (trunk prefix) is removed — except for Italy, where the 0 is part of landline numbers. The result must be 8 to 15 digits, the E.164 limit. The message is percent-encoded as UTF-8, so emoji and accents work.
Example
+1 (555) 123-4567 with the message Hi there becomes https://wa.me/15551234567?text=Hi%20there. The UK number 07700 900123 with United Kingdom chosen becomes https://wa.me/447700900123.
Frequently asked questions
Does the number need a WhatsApp account?
Yes. If the number is not registered on WhatsApp, the link opens a message saying so. WhatsApp Business numbers work the same way.
Is the message sent automatically?
No. It is only placed in the text box; the person can edit it and must press Send.
Why no + in the link?
WhatsApp's click-to-chat format uses the full number as plain digits, without +, 00, brackets or a leading zero.
Can I change the message later without reprinting?
No — the message is part of the printed code. Keep it general, such as "Hi, I saw your poster".
