Genshin Impact Artifact Upgrade Calculator
How much artifact EXP you need to level a Genshin Impact artifact from one level to another, with fodder counts, substat upgrades and a level table.
Levelling artifacts eats more EXP than most players expect, and the cost climbs steeply after +12. This calculator adds up the exact EXP from your current level to your target, shows how many substat upgrades you will see on the way, and converts the total into fodder artifacts or Sanctifying Essence so you know whether you can afford to gamble on a piece.
How to use this tool
- Pick the artifact’s rarity.
- Enter its current level and the level you want.
- Optional: enter the EXP already filled in the current level’s bar.
- Read the EXP needed, fodder counts and the per-level table.
Formula
EXP needed = Σ EXP(L → L+1) for every level from current to target − EXP already in the bar
The per-level EXP values come from the game’s artifact level table. Fodder values: 3★ artifact 1,260 EXP, 4★ 2,520, 5★ 3,780, Sanctifying Unction 2,500 and Sanctifying Essence 10,000. A substat upgrade (or a new line until there are four) happens at every level divisible by 4.
Example
Taking a 5★ artifact from +0 to +20 needs 270,475 EXP. That is 108 unlevelled 4★ artifacts (270,475 ÷ 2,520 = 107.3, rounded up), 72 5★ artifacts or 28 Sanctifying Essence. Going only from +0 to +4 costs 3,000 + 3,725 + 4,425 + 5,150 = 16,300 EXP, enough to see the first substat upgrade.
Frequently asked questions
Why does levelling get so expensive near +20?
The EXP per level jumps after +13: +19 to +20 alone needs 35,575 EXP, more than +0 to +6 combined. That is why many players level pieces to +4 or +8 first and only finish ones that rolled well.
Should I feed 5★ artifacts?
Only ones you will never use. A 5★ gives 3,780 EXP, just 50% more than a 4★, and 4★ artifacts are much easier to farm.
How many substat upgrades does a 5★ get?
Five, at +4, +8, +12, +16 and +20. If the artifact started with three substats, the first one adds a fourth substat instead of upgrading an existing one.
