Email QR Code Generator

Create a QR code that opens a pre-filled email: recipient, CC, BCC, subject and message, as a mailto: link or MATMSG. PNG and SVG, scan-checked.

Separate several addresses with commas.
Format
Width of the PNG. The SVG scales to any size.
Hex colour. Keep it dark.
Hex colour. Keep it light.
Blank border around the code. The QR standard asks for 4.

An email QR code opens a new message with the address, subject and text already filled in, so people only have to tap Send. It suits support desks, feedback cards, event check-ins and RSVP posters. This tool builds the standard mailto: link (RFC 6068) or the older MATMSG format, encodes it as a QR code and decodes the image again to confirm it works. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the recipient address; separate several addresses with commas.
  2. Optionally add CC, BCC, a subject and the message text.
  3. Keep mailto: unless you target old readers that only understand MATMSG.
  4. Choose size, colours and format, then download the PNG or SVG.

Formula

mailto:TO?cc=…&bcc=…&subject=…&body=… · MATMSG:TO:address;SUB:subject;BODY:text;;

mailto: fields are percent-encoded (a space becomes %20, a line break %0D%0A) and empty fields are left out. In MATMSG, backslash, semicolon and colon are escaped with a backslash; the format has no CC or BCC.

Example

To a@example.com with the subject Hi there gives mailto:a@example.com?subject=Hi%20there. The same message as MATMSG is MATMSG:TO:a@example.com;SUB:Hi there;;.

Frequently asked questions

Does scanning send the email automatically?

No. Scanning opens the mail app with a draft, and nothing is sent until the person presses Send. Phones never send mail straight from a QR code.

Should I use mailto: or MATMSG?

mailto: is the internet standard and works with the iPhone and Android camera apps and every mail client. MATMSG comes from Japanese NTT Docomo phones; some scanner apps still read it, but it cannot carry CC or BCC.

How long can the message be?

One QR code holds at most about 2,900 bytes, and percent-encoding turns every byte of non-English text into three characters. Keep the message to a few sentences so the code stays easy to scan.

Is my address stored anywhere?

No. The code is generated on your device and contains only the text shown under Encoded content, with no tracking link or redirect.
