Prayer Times Calculator
Estimate prayer times from coordinates, date, UTC offset, twilight angles and your selected Asr and high-latitude conventions.
Estimate Fajr, sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha for an entered location and date. The calculation combines an astronomical solar model with your chosen prayer conventions. It is a planning timetable; confirm the settings and final observance times with your local community.
How to use this tool
- Enter latitude, longitude and the local date containing solar noon, within 1900–2100.
- Enter the UTC offset including daylight saving time; the same offset applies to every event.
- Choose twilight angles, Asr shadow factor, sunset/transit delays and the Isha method.
- Choose a high-latitude adjustment only when it matches your community’s practice. Read each event’s full date.
Formula
Solar altitude follows latitude, solar declination and hour angle. Transit = 12 − longitude / 15 − equation of time (UTC hours). Asr altitude = atan[1 / (factor + noon-shadow ratio)].
USNO approximate solar coordinates are evaluated throughout the day. Sunrise and sunset use a solar-center altitude of −5/6°. A directional altitude crossing is solved numerically. Dhuhr and Maghrib add the entered delays; interval-based Isha follows the delayed Maghrib.
Example
At latitude 0°, longitude 0°, UTC offset 0, on 20 March 2026, the USNO example gives sunrise 06:04, solar noon 12:07 and sunset 18:11. With zero Maghrib delay and interval-based Isha set to 90 minutes, Isha is 19:41 that same date.
Frequently asked questions
What happens at high latitudes?
The selected fraction caps Fajr before sunrise and Isha after sunset, using the actual adjacent sunset-to-sunrise night. Missing sunrise or sunset cannot be replaced by a night fraction.
Are these official local prayer times?
No. Angles, religious conventions, precautionary delays, terrain and observation practices vary. The defaults are illustrative settings.
Does the calculator detect my time zone?
No. Enter a fixed UTC offset yourself. Events crossing midnight show their changed date. Dates spanning a clock change require an independently checked local timetable.
