France VAT (TVA) Calculator — HT to TTC

Add French VAT to a price (HT to TTC) or remove it (TTC to HT) at 20%, 10%, 5.5%, 2.1% or the 8.5% overseas rate, with the TVA amount to the cent.

What do you want to do?
For example 13% (petroleum products in Corsica) or 1.05% (some operations in the overseas departments)

Prices in France are quoted either HT (hors taxes, before VAT) or TTC (toutes taxes comprises, VAT included). This calculator converts between the two at the French TVA rates in force in 2026: 20%, 10%, 5.5% and 2.1% in mainland France, and 8.5% in Guadeloupe, Martinique and La Réunion. Use it for quotes, invoices, receipts and price lists.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Choose Add TVA for an HT amount or Remove TVA for a TTC amount.
  3. Pick the rate that applies to the product or service, or type another rate.
  4. Read the HT, TVA and TTC figures and compare all rates in the table.

Formula

TTC = HT × (1 + t); HT = TTC ÷ (1 + t); TVA = TTC − HT

t is the rate as a decimal (0.20 for 20%). The VAT share of a TTC price is t ÷ (1 + t): one sixth at 20%, one eleventh at 10%. Results are rounded to the cent.

Example

A craftsman quotes €850 HT for work at 20%: TVA is €850 × 0.20 = €170, so the client pays €1,020 TTC. A restaurant bill of €55 TTC at 10% contains €55 − €55 ÷ 1.10 = €5 of TVA on €50 HT. A €105.50 TTC grocery basket at 5.5% is €100 HT.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not just take 20% off a TTC price?

Because the 20% was added to the HT price. €120 TTC minus 20% gives €96, but the true HT price is €120 ÷ 1.2 = €100. At 20% the TVA is one sixth of the TTC amount.

Which rate applies to restaurants and takeaway?

Meals served on site and most prepared food are at 10%. Alcoholic drinks are at 20%. Food sold for later consumption, such as groceries, is generally at 5.5%.

What about Corsica, Guyane and Mayotte?

Corsica uses the mainland rates but applies lower rates to some goods, for example 13% on petroleum products. TVA is not applied in Guyane and Mayotte for now. Use the Other rate option for any special rate.

Did any rate change recently?

Since 1 August 2025 gas and electricity subscriptions are taxed at 20% instead of 5.5%.
