The amount is
Only used with "Other rate"

Add VAT to a net price, or take it out of a VAT-inclusive price, for any of the 27 EU member states. Pick the country and rate — standard, reduced or super-reduced — and you get the net amount, the VAT and the gross price, plus a table showing the same amount at every country's standard rate.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Say whether it excludes VAT (add VAT) or already includes it (remove VAT).
  3. Pick the country and rate, or choose "Other rate" and type it in.

Formula

Add VAT: gross = net × (1 + r) Remove VAT: net = gross ÷ (1 + r), VAT = gross − net

r is the VAT rate as a decimal (21% = 0.21). Removing VAT is not the same as knocking 21% off the gross price: the VAT inside a gross price is r ÷ (1 + r) of it, about 17.36% at a 21% rate.

Example

A €100 net invoice in Germany at the 19% standard rate carries €19.00 VAT, so the customer pays €119.00. Going the other way, a €121 receipt from the Netherlands (21%) contains €21.00 VAT on a net price of €100.00 — not the €25.41 you would get by taking 21% of €121.

Frequently asked questions

What are the EU standard VAT rates in 2026?

From 17% in Luxembourg to 27% in Hungary. Most countries charge between 19% and 23%; Greece and Estonia charge 24%, Croatia, Denmark and Sweden 25%, and Finland 25.5%.

Does this decide which VAT rate I must charge?

No. Place-of-supply rules, customer status and the product determine the applicable tax. Cross-border goods and services have exceptions. Verify the legal rate with the national authority before selecting it here.

Which products get reduced rates?

Each country chooses, within EU rules, which goods and services are reduced — typically food, books, medicines, passenger transport and hotels. The same product can be standard-rated in one country and reduced in another, so check the national list.

Why might my invoice differ by a cent?

Businesses often round VAT on each line rather than on the total. This calculator rounds only the final figures.

Are territorial and zero rates included?

Czechia and Denmark include the zero entries in the EU summary. Other zero or territorial rates, including island regimes, can be entered using Other after verification. This table is not an exhaustive product classification.
