Date Difference Calculator — Days Between Two Dates
Count the days between two dates, and see the gap in years, months and days, weeks, weekdays, hours and minutes. Option to include the end date.
Enter two dates to see exactly how far apart they are: total days, the calendar gap in years, months and days, and the same span in weeks, weekdays, hours, minutes and seconds. It is handy for countdowns, notice periods, project timelines, visa stays and anniversaries. Leap years are handled automatically.
How to use this tool
- Pick the start date.
- Pick the end date (it can be before the start date — the dates are swapped).
- Tick "Include the end date" if both the first and last day should count.
- Read the days between, then the other units below it.
Formula
Days between = end date − start date (+ 1 if the end date is included)
Dates are counted as whole calendar days, so time zones and daylight-saving changes do not shift the answer. The years-months-days figure adds each candidate month count directly to the start date and clamps missing days to month end. Weekdays are Monday to Friday; public holidays are not removed (use the business days calculator for that).
Example
From 1 January 2026 to 25 December 2026 there are 358 days, which is 0 years, 11 months and 24 days, or 51 weeks and 1 day. Of those days, 256 are weekdays. If you tick "Include the end date", the count becomes 359 days.
Frequently asked questions
Does "days between" include both dates?
By default it counts the start date but not the end date, which is how most people and spreadsheets measure a gap (Monday to Friday is 4 days). Tick the box to add the end date as well.
How do I count days between dates in Excel?
Subtract the cells: =B1-A1 gives the days between, and =B1-A1+1 includes both dates. =DATEDIF(A1,B1,"y") gives complete years.
Why is a month not always 30 days here?
Months have 28 to 31 days, so the years-months-days figure counts real calendar months. Total days is always exact.
