Formula
Age in days = as-of date − date of birth (in calendar days)
The day of birth itself is not counted, so a baby born yesterday is 1 day old. Every 29 February between the two dates adds a day, because the count works on actual dates rather than assuming 365 days a year. Hours are simply days × 24 from midnight, so add your birth time if you want it to the hour.
Example
Someone born on 15 May 1990 is 10,958 days old on 15 May 2020. Thirty years of 365 days is 10,950, plus 8 leap days (1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020). That is 1,565 weeks and 3 days, or about 262,992 hours, and their 10,000-day mark fell on 30 September 2017.
Frequently asked questions
When do I turn 10,000 days old?
About 27 years and 4 months after birth, since 10,000 ÷ 365.25 ≈ 27.4 years. The exact date depends on how many leap days you have lived through, and it is shown in the results.
Does the count include the day I was born?
No. It counts full days elapsed, the same way age in years works. For an inclusive count that includes both the first and the last day, add 1.
How are leap years handled?
Each 29 February between the two dates adds one day. A person born on 29 February is counted from that date like anyone else.
Can I see how old someone will be on a future date?
Yes. Set the second date to the future day, such as a wedding or a retirement date, and the calculator gives the age on that day.
