Shipping Rate Calculator — Entered Quote Comparison
Compare entered shipping quotes as average cost per kilogram and per pound, converting kg and lb consistently without a live carrier lookup.
Normalize shipping quotes into an average cost per kilogram and per pound. Enter a total price and the weight basis used for each quote; kg and lb rows are converted consistently. This helps explain price-per-weight differences, but it does not retrieve a tariff or identify the best service.
How to use this tool
- Collect prices for the shipments or alternatives you want to examine.
- Enter Quote | Total price | Weight used | kg or lb, one quote per line.
- Use the same actual-weight or confirmed billable-weight basis across the comparison.
- Read each normalized rate and compare the services, inclusions and total prices separately.
Formula
Average cost per kg = quoted total / weight in kg; weight in kg = weight in lb × 0.45359237; average cost per lb = average cost per kg × 0.45359237
The international avoirdupois pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg. Every weight must be positive. The selected currency labels all prices without exchange conversion. Rates use the full entered values; monetary price cells round for display. Up to 100 quotes are supported.
Example
A quote of 50 for 10 kg averages 5 per kg. A second quote of 45 for the same 10 kg averages 4.5 per kg, equivalent to 2.041165665 per lb. The second average is lower for these supplied figures; whether the service terms are comparable still needs checking.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the carrier's incremental rate?
No. Dividing a complete quote by weight gives an average that includes any fixed charges in that quote. You cannot safely multiply this average by a new weight to predict the next shipment's price.
Should I enter actual or dimensional weight?
Choose one consistent basis. Use actual weight for cost per physical mass, or the carrier-confirmed billable weight for a billing comparison. The calculator does not infer dimensional weight or rounding rules.
Does the lowest rate mean the cheapest suitable shipment?
Not necessarily. Total weight, route, delivery time, liability, inclusions, account terms and surcharge treatment may differ. The displayed minimum is an arithmetic comparison of entered rates, not a booking recommendation.
