Minecraft Slime Chunk Finder
Check whether your chunk is a slime chunk in Minecraft Java (from the world seed) or Bedrock, see a map of nearby slime chunks and the closest one to you.
Slimes only spawn underground in certain chunks, so a slime farm or a slimeball trip starts with finding one. This finder runs the same check the game uses: in Java Edition it combines your world seed with the chunk coordinates, and in Bedrock Edition it uses the chunk coordinates alone. You get a yes or no for the chunk you are standing in, a map of the area and the closest slime chunks with their block coordinates.
How to use this tool
- Choose Java or Bedrock Edition.
- Java only: enter the world seed shown by the /seed command.
- Enter your X and Z block coordinates from the F3 screen or the coordinates display.
- Read the answer, then use the map and the closest-chunks table to plan where to dig.
Formula
Java: Random(seed + x²·4987142 + x·5947611 + z²·4392871 + z·389711 XOR 987234911).nextInt(10) = 0
x and z are chunk coordinates (block coordinate ÷ 16, rounded down), computed with Java’s 32-bit integer overflow, and Random is java.util.Random. Text seeds are first turned into a number with Java’s String.hashCode. Bedrock seeds a Mersenne Twister with (x × 0x1F1F1F1F) XOR z and checks whether its first output is divisible by 10. Either way about one chunk in ten is a slime chunk.
Example
In a Java world with seed 12345, standing at X 50, Z 8 puts you in chunk 3, 0, which covers X 48–63 and Z 0–15. The check returns Yes, so slimes can spawn there below Y = 40. Chunk 0, 0 in the same world is not a slime chunk.
Frequently asked questions
At what height do slimes spawn in slime chunks?
Below Y = 40 in both editions, at any light level. In Java they spawn in groups; in Bedrock they spawn one at a time. Slimes can also spawn on the surface in swamps, under separate rules.
Why do Bedrock slime chunks not need a seed?
Bedrock’s check uses only the chunk coordinates, so the same chunks are slime chunks in every Bedrock world.
My world seed is a word, not a number. Does it work?
Yes. Java converts text seeds to a number with String.hashCode, and the tool does the same; the converted number is shown under Seed used. The simplest option is still to run /seed and copy the number.
How big should a slime farm be?
Clear out as much of the chunk below Y = 40 as you can and build spawning floors with at least three blocks of headroom, since large slimes are just over two blocks tall. Lighting up nearby caves leaves more of the mob cap for slimes.
