Game Item Name Generator
Generate names for weapons, armor, accessories and potions by rarity tier and theme (fantasy, dark, sci-fi). Repeatable batches with a seed word.
Loot needs names, and writing hundreds by hand gets old fast. This generator names weapons, armor, accessories and potions in classic fantasy, dark fantasy or sci-fi style, and scales the name with rarity: plain material-and-type names for common drops, named relics with titles for legendary ones. Use it for RPG loot tables, tabletop treasure, crafting systems or placeholder data while you prototype.
How to use this tool
- Choose the item type, or Any for a mixed loot pile.
- Pick a theme that matches your setting.
- Pick a rarity, or Mixed to roll rarities like a loot table.
- Set how many names you want and press the button for a new batch.
- Optional: type a seed word so the same batch comes back later.
Formula
Common: Material + Type · Uncommon: Adjective + Material + Type · Rare: Material + Type + "of …" · Epic: Owner’s + Adjective + Type · Legendary: Proper name, Type + title
Potions combine effects with grades, adjectives, owners or special ingredients. Sci-fi gear uses model codes such as VX-17 and quoted codenames. Before duplicate removal, Mixed mode rolls rarities with weights of 35% common, 27% uncommon, 20% rare, 12% epic and 6% legendary.
Example
With item type Weapons, theme Classic fantasy, rarity Legendary and seed loot, the batch opens with Lightfang, Longbow of the Endless Tide, then Starshard, Glaive of the First Kings and Stormrend, Scythe of the Endless Tide. Switch rarity to Common with the same seed and you get short names instead: Golden Longbow, Elven Dagger, Oak Glaive, Steel Saber.
Frequently asked questions
How should item names change with rarity?
A common convention is to keep common items plain and descriptive, then add adjectives, "of the …" suffixes, an owner or a unique proper name as rarity rises. Many games also color rarities, often grey or white, green, blue, purple and orange.
Why does every press give different names?
With the seed box empty the tool picks a new random seed each time. The seed it used is shown in the results, so you can type it back in to recover a batch you liked.
Can I export the list?
Use the copy button for the main results, or select the table and paste it into a spreadsheet, where each column lands in its own cell.
