Delivery Driver Earnings Calculator
Work out real delivery driver earnings per hour after fuel and car costs, with net per mile, per delivery, weekly and yearly totals.
Delivery apps show what you earned, but not what you kept. Fuel, wear on your car and small costs like parking come out of that figure, and time spent waiting for orders lowers the real hourly rate. This calculator works out net earnings per hour, per delivery and per mile for a shift on any platform, and projects them to a week and a year.
How to use this tool
- Enter the hours you were logged in and the deliveries you completed.
- Enter app pay and tips from your earnings summary.
- Enter the distance driven, fuel economy and fuel price, plus your per-mile estimate for other vehicle costs.
- Add other expenses, an optional tax set-aside and how many similar shifts you work a week.
Formula
Net earnings = app pay + tips − fuel − distance × vehicle cost per mile − other expenses
Net per hour = (net earnings − tax set-aside) ÷ hours worked
Fuel is distance ÷ mpg × price per gallon, or distance × L/100 km ÷ 100 × price per litre. The tax set-aside is a percentage you choose of positive net earnings; it is not a tax calculation. Hourly and weekly take-home figures subtract the reserve, while net shift/per-delivery/per-distance figures are before that reserve.
Example
A 5-hour shift with 15 deliveries pays $100 from the app plus $50 in tips. Driving 60 miles at 30 mpg uses 2 gallons, or $6 at $3.00 a gallon; wear at $0.10 a mile is another $6 and parking is $3. Net earnings are 150 − 15 = $135, or $27 an hour and $9 per delivery. Five shifts like this a week come to $675.
Frequently asked questions
Should I count waiting time?
Include the waiting, repositioning and other time you want this shift’s earnings to cover. Use the same definition of hours when comparing platforms or shifts; active-time rates exclude some of that time.
What vehicle cost per mile should I use?
Add up a year of maintenance, tyres, extra insurance and the loss in your car's value, then divide by the miles you drive. Fuel is calculated separately here, so leave it out of that figure.
How much should I set aside for taxes?
Use a rate appropriate to your jurisdiction, other income, deductions and tax position. This field only reserves a chosen percentage of positive accounting earnings; it does not calculate tax liability or deductible vehicle expenses.
