Image Pixel Color Picker
Sample a pixel from a PNG, JPEG or WebP image using zero-based coordinates, and read its RGB HEX, RGBA bytes and transparency.
Read the color of one pixel in a local image. Upload a PNG, JPEG or WebP file and specify its horizontal and vertical pixel coordinates. The result includes an opaque RGB HEX code, the original sampled alpha byte, and a downloadable swatch that keeps that transparency.
How to use this tool
- Choose one supported image, up to 25 MiB and 16 million decoded pixels.
- Enter X from the left edge and Y from the top edge, starting at zero.
- Calculate and read both the RGB value and alpha.
- Download the color swatch if you want a visual reference.
Formula
RGBA = canvas pixel at (x, y); alpha fraction = alpha byte ÷ 255
Coordinates refer to the decoded image at its natural pixel dimensions, after the browser’s orientation handling. HEX displays the RGB channels only. The alpha result determines how those channels blend over a background.
Example
In a 160×100 image, the bottom-right pixel is (159, 99). If its RGBA bytes are 255, 0, 0, 128, its RGB HEX is #FF0000 and its alpha is 128/255 ≈ 0.501961.
Coordinate limits
X must be smaller than the decoded width and Y smaller than the decoded height. A coordinate on or beyond the right or bottom boundary is rejected instead of sampling transparent pixels outside the picture.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the swatch look different on another background?
A partly transparent pixel blends with what is behind it. The PNG swatch preserves alpha, while the six-digit HEX result alone describes opaque RGB.
Does this read the exact compressed file values?
It reads browser-decoded canvas pixels. JPEG decoding, color management and premultiplied alpha can affect channel values. It is not a raw-file color-profile analyzer.
Can I click a point on the image?
This version selects by numeric pixel coordinates. Use the reported natural dimensions to choose a valid point; the displayed preview may be scaled on your screen.
