Kaomoji Generator & Copy List
Build your own kaomoji from arms, eyes and mouths, or copy 200+ Japanese text faces sorted by mood: happy, love, sad, angry, shrug, cat, bear and table flip.
Kaomoji are Japanese-style emoticons made from ordinary text characters and read upright rather than sideways: (◕‿◕) smiles, (╥﹏╥) cries and (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ flips a table. This generator does two jobs. It assembles your own face from parts — arms, outline, cheeks, eyes, mouth and a finishing touch — and it lists more than 200 ready-made kaomoji sorted by mood, so you can paste one into a chat, caption or comment in seconds.
How to use this tool
- Pick a mood to list ready-made faces, or choose All moods.
- To build your own, choose the arms, face shape, cheeks, eyes and mouth.
- Add an optional finishing touch such as ♡, ☆ or ♪.
- Copy Your kaomoji from the result box, or select any face in the table.
Formula
kaomoji = left arm + face opening + cheek + left eye + mouth + right eye + cheek + face closing + right arm + extra
Each part is plain Unicode text and an empty part is simply left out. That is how ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ is made: the bear outline ʕ ʔ, two • eyes, the ᴥ nose and no arms.
Example
With cheering arms (٩ ۶), a round face, ◕ eyes and the ‿ smile, the builder gives ٩(◕‿◕)۶. Switch the arms to thumbs up (d b), the eyes to ^ ^ and the mouth to _ flat and it becomes d(^_^)b. The Happy list holds 16 faces, starting with (◕‿◕) and (^▽^); All moods shows 224 faces across 20 moods.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between kaomoji and emoji?
An emoji is a character or sequence drawn as a picture, often differently on each platform. A kaomoji is a little drawing made of several ordinary characters — brackets, Japanese kana, Greek letters and symbols — so it looks much the same everywhere and you can edit it character by character.
Why do some kaomoji show empty boxes?
A few faces use rarer characters, such as the Kannada letter ಠ in (ಠ_ಠ) or the combining marks in ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). If a device has no font containing that character it draws a box instead. Faces made of brackets, ^, ▽, ω and ‿ display almost everywhere.
Why does the shrug lose its arm in Discord or Reddit?
Both apps use Markdown, where a backslash hides the character after it, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ can turn into ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Type three backslashes where the face has one — ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ — and it shows correctly.
Can I use kaomoji in usernames and bios?
Use them where the platform accepts these Unicode characters. Fields limited to letters and digits also reject punctuation-only faces such as (^_^).
